Some Elective Surgical Procedures Resume with Efforts to Resume Operations Continue at GRH Laboratory

Waterloo Region - Grand River Hospital continues to provide services following the closure of the hospital’s laboratory on Monday due to potential contamination from a specimen.

While the situation has not returned to normal, some elective surgical procedures will take place tomorrow on a case-by-case basis.

The hospital continues to provide a wide range of inpatient services. The emergency department, emergency surgical procedures, chemotherapy and kidney dialysis services also continue to operate.

As to the clean-up, GRH continues to work with specialists to plan the cleaning and decontamination of the area as well as preparing the laboratory for operation.

GRH will continue to update the public daily on the status of the hospital’s services. Hospital staff members have contacted patients whose procedures may be affected.
