Miovision’s Kurtis McBride Wins the 2012 Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation of Executive Leadership
Kitchener Miovision Technologies Inc., announced that its CEO and company co-founder, Kurtis McBride, is the 2012 recipient of the Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation of Executive Leadership. The award was presented by the CATA Alliance during their 27th Annual Gold Innovation Awards Gala last night.
McBride founded Miovision in 2005 with Kevin Madill and Tony Brijpaul while he was still attending the University of Waterloo, where he holds an Undergraduate and Master’s Degree in Systems Design Engineering. Miovision started at the Accelerator Centre in Waterloo, Ontario, a centre that helps start-up companies commercialize their R&D technologies. In just six years, McBride has led Miovision from those first days in the Accelerator Centre to an international company that has over 350 customers in 27 countries, spanning five continents. The company’s growth rate has been immense, from 3 employees in 2005 to 88 employees today. In 2011 alone the employee growth rate was 68%, and opened an office in Cologne, Germany.
Miovision has a low turnover rate due to the vision, culture and leadership style that McBride has fostered; employees believe in the product, and believe strongly in McBride. Likewise, it’s apparent McBride believes in the worth and potential of his team, hosting internal leadership development seminars, monthly town-hall meetings and team-building events. Most importantly, he upholds an open-door policy - he is readily available to his staff to discuss any problem, big or small. These are just some the hallmarks of a committed leader that McBride regularly demonstrates as he drives Miovision forward to greater success.
“I am honoured and thankful to be recognized by my peers with an award as prestigious as the Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation of Executive Leadership through the CATA Alliance,” says Kurtis McBride, CEO of Miovision. “I am grateful to Ernst and Young of Kitchener for their nomination, and for their faith in an idea and company that began seven years ago in a basement, and has grown through the innovation, hard work and dedication of the entire Miovision team to the company it is today one that is facilitating positive, sustainable change for urban traffic around the world.”
The Peter Brojde Award for Canada’s Next Generation of Executive Leadership was created after the late Peter Brojde, one of Canada’s leading and respected entrepreneurs. Peter co-founded Micom Data Systems, a company that became a world leader in stand-alone word processing systems, a precursor to today’s PCs. In 1979, Micom was acquired by Dutch electronics giant Philips N.V. He also co-founded Eicon Technology Corporation, which grew to 700 employees in 70 countries around the world, and ranked fourth largest among Canadian software manufacturers.
