Grand River Hospital declares influenza A outbreak on portion of Union Terrace Two at Freeport Site
Kitchener - Grand River Hospital will be limiting visitors on UT2 (north court only) at its Freeport Site upon declaring an influenza A outbreak earlier today. The two affected patients are stable, isolated from other patients and receiving treatment.
GRH has taken several steps to help patients and keep the illness from spreading. These include:
• Isolating the two patients with symptoms and postponing group activities;
• Aggressive cleaning throughout the unit;
• Ongoing monitoring of other patients for symptoms; and
• Limiting visiting to the north court of the unit until further notice.
Group activities and visiting elsewhere within the facility
are continuing at present.
GRH will continually review the status of the outbreak and keep patients, staff and the community updated.
Influenza and other respiratory colds are common at this time of year. Visitors with symptoms of a cold, influenza, a stomach virus or those who are not feeling well are advised to stay home and not enter a hospital until they’ve been symptom-free for two days. Anyone visiting a hospital should wash and sanitize their hands regularly before, during and after a visit.
