Grand River Hospital declares an end to influenza A outbreak on Union Terrace Two at Freeport Site

Waterloo Region - Grand River Hospital has worked with Region of Waterloo Public Health to declare an end to the influenza A outbreak on Union Terrace Two at its Freeport Site.

A total of three patients were confirmed to have contracted the flu during outbreak, which started on Thursday November 22. Three other patients experienced symptoms but were not confirmed to have the virus.

GRH is reminding all visitors that influenza, colds and stomach viruses are common at this time of the year. Visitors with symptoms or those who are not feeling well are advised to stay home and not enter a hospital until they’ve been symptom-free for two days. Anyone visiting a hospital should wash and sanitize their hands regularly before, during and after a visit.

These precautions will help reduce the chance of passing an infection to seriously-ill patients.
