Calls for entry open for youth video competition and Rotunda Gallery

Kitchener – Are you an artist or young videographer, perhaps a filmmaker in Waterloo Region? There are currently two calls for entry open for a youth video competition. The competition is open to youth ages 12-25; proposals are now being accepted for the Rotunda Gallery’s 2014 exhibition roster.

Youth video competition: The Berlin Tower at Kitchener City Hall has become a giant screen for creative digital projections. Images and videos are projected onto two sides of the top of the tower, an area called the Cube. On it, we showcase community festivals, events and public art. This is also where the winners of the youth video competition will have their videos screened for the month of September.

Showcase your short original videos (no audio) for public outdoor digital display on city hall. There are three cash awards of $200 each in two age categories:

12-17 years
18-25 years

Up to 10 honourable mentions will also be exhibited on the Cube for a minimum of one month.

Deadline for entries is June 14. Fill out an online application at and include a short personal bio and the URL where your video is located (YouTube, Vimeo, etc).

Rotunda Gallery: Professional visual artists are invited to submit exhibition proposals for the Rotunda Gallery’s 2014 schedule. Applications must be received in the city’s arts/culture unit by Thursday, Sept. 12 at 4 p.m.

Located on the ground floor of Kitchener city hall, the Rotunda Gallery features month-long, self-curated exhibits of original work by outstanding visual artists. The gallery program supports professional contemporary practice in the visual arts. To promote the development of visual arts in our region, applicants from Waterloo region are given preference, but artists’ applications from other Ontario localities may be considered. The Rotunda Gallery is a member of the Ontario Association of Art Galleries (OAAG). The city announces exhibit openings to the media, and welcomes visitors to the gallery seven days a week.
