City of Kitchener casino consultation survey results and report available

KITCHENER – After an extensive community consultation that included a survey, two public input sessions and feedback provided to city hall, the results are in: overwhelmingly, the public is opposed to a casino in the City of Kitchener or in the surrounding area.

The city’s survey, which was completed by 2326 respondents, indicated that 75% oppose a casino. Social problems are the number one reason cited for opposing a gaming facility.

“We heard from the community and the message is clear: this community does not want a casino,” said Jeff Willmer, CAO, City of Kitchener. “This survey had, by far, the strongest participation rate that the city has seen – which speaks to the importance of this issue in the community.”

The complete report and survey analysis are available on the city’s website at

Kitchener council is scheduled to deal with the issue on May 13.
