Waterloo - A socially conscious start up from the University of Waterloo has found a way to get people on the other side of the world safe drinking water. Aleks Poldma and Spencer Kelly launched Hydrated World about a year ago while attending university together. Hydrated World is an apparel company with a mission to eliminate the water crisis—every item purchased provides someone with 500 litres of safe water per year for 25 years. Currently, Hydrated World is working on water projects in South Sudan but hope to one-day reach other parts of Africa.

October gallery exhibits feature bogs and geek culture

KITCHENER – The October exhibit of the Rotunda Gallery features a set of woodcut monoprints, entitled Core Sample Segments, which are an extension of work called Trembling Bog, begun in 2006. Artist Alison Judd investigated the life cycles of the Sifton Bog in London, Ontario, with the assistance of Dr. William W. Judd, her uncle and professor emeritus of zoology at the University of Western Ontario. In 1957, Dr. Judd led a movement to preserve the bog, which was a place of scientific research for him for 50 years.

GUELPH - Guelph Hydro is warning customers about a scam being reported in Guelph. Guelph Hydro has received complaints about phone calls customers are receiving from someone claiming to represent the local utility, threatening disconnection if an overdue account is not paid within 30 minutes through wire transfer or pre-paid credit card. It would appear that small businesses are being targeted with this scam.

The facts are there, and the question is why it’s happening and when will old fashioned bureaucracies around the world will come to grips and acknowledge the massive women-power in the entrepreneurial and business world?
