GALA CELEBRATES 20 YEARS OF THE CANADIAN CLAY & GLASS GALLERY

WATERLOO - The Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery announced that tickets are now available for The Clay & Glass Gala to be held on March 22, 2014 at 7:30 pm. The event is the Gallery’s annual fundraiser, and this year’s Gala is the capstone of a year of celebrations marking the Gallery’s 20th Anniversary.

Excitement for the Gala is building, especially now that Lisa Drew of 570 News has been named Honorary Gala Chair. “I am thrilled to be involved with The Clay & Glass Gala this year. I am looking forward to working with the staff and volunteers at the Gallery to make their 20th Anniversary celebration an exciting and successful event.”

As part of her contribution as Honorary Chair, Lisa has arranged a Champagne Balloon Ride for two aboard the CHYM Hot Air Balloon, which will be part of the live auction at the event.

In addition to the live auction, the Gala Committee is putting together a silent auction of 20 items for guests to bid on at the event. A number of well-known Canadian artists have already donated pieces to the silent auction. Most of these artists, including Ann Roberts, Jack Sures and Aganetha Dyck, have had a connection to the Gallery during the last 20 years: their work has been included in exhibitions, the permanent collection or the Shop.

Two works, donated by Susan Collett and Shary Boyle, have been selected for a sealed-bid auction. Susan Collett, the first winner of the Winifred Shantz Award for Ceramics, has had her work featured in multiple Gallery exhibitions in recent years. Shary Boyle, the artist chosen to represent Canada at the 2013 Venice Biennale, had a solo exhibition at the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery in 2007. While guests will be able to bid on these works at the Gala, those who are unable to attend will have a chance to email their bids to the Gallery in the weeks leading up to the event. More information about these works and instructions on how to bid can be found on the Gallery’s website at: www.theclayandglass.ca/gala/sealed-bid.

Guests at the Gala will also have the chance to get creative and participate in one of two art- making activities: glass fusing with Laurie Spieker of Grand River Glassworks and jewellery- making with Aggie Beynon, formerly of Harbinger Gallery. The Tim Louis Trio will entertain guests with classic and contemporary favourites while Gusto Catering serves delicious hors d’ouevres. The ever-popular Balloon Pop activity will be bigger than ever with lots of great prizes to be won.

The Gallery is pleased to announce that two sponsors from last year will be supporting the Gala once again: Miller Thomson Lawyers at the Gold level and KPMG at Silver. Chicopee Craftsmen will be a Bronze Sponsor for the first time. The Clay & Glass Gala will be held at the Gallery at 25 Caroline Street North in Waterloo. Tickets are $100 and can be purchased from the Gallery Shop, in person or by phone at 519-746-1882 ext. 222. All proceeds from the event support the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery’s operations and programming. For more details, visit the Gallery website at www.theclayandglass.ca/gala
