Local Poverty Reduction Fund to Invest in New Technology for Perth and Huron Organizations

New Fund Supports Community-Driven Solutions to Tackling Poverty

Queens Park - Ontario is investing in an innovative web-based tool, created by the University of Waterloo, to help community organizations lift people and families out of poverty.

Through the Local Poverty Reduction Fund, Ontario is investing up to $300,000 in a new software platform that will allow organizations to collect, analyze and share data on poverty and poverty reduction initiatives in Perth and Huron counties.

This tool will help identify the areas of greatest need in the community and identify the local initiatives that best help the community, allowing civic leaders to target resources to those who need them the most and invest in the right supports.

Evidence gathered from this project and others will be used by the province to support poverty reduction programs across the province that have been proven to work and that can expand over time.

Fighting poverty is part of the government’s economic plan for Ontario. The four-part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, innovative environment where business thrives and building a secure savings plan.
