Strong Hiring Climate Expected for Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge

Kitchener – Employers in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area expect a strong hiring climate for the fourth quarter of 2015, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey. “Survey data reveals that 23 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (October to December), while two per cent anticipate cutbacks,” stated Nikki Sharpley of Manpower’s Kitchener office. Another 70 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter, while the remaining five per cent are unsure about their hiring intentions.

“With seasonal variations removed from the data, Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge Region’s fourth quarter Net Employment Outlook of 22 per cent is an increase of six percentage points when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Sharpley. “It is also a 12 percentage point increase from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, indicating a healthy hiring pace for the upcoming months.”

“As of July, unemployment remained unchanged for six consecutive months, while employment is up by 0.9 per cent compared to this time last year,” said Michelle Dunnill, Manpower Area Manager for Toronto, Mississauga and Markham. “We have also noted an increase in full-time work, a positive change from recent quarters. However, we are hearing some concerns regarding the market’s instability, leading to some employers holding off on hiring.”
