Steady Hiring Climate Expected For Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge

Waterloo Region – Employers in the Kitchener-Waterloo-Cambridge area expect a steady hiring climate for the second quarter of 2016, according to the latest Manpower Employment Outlook Survey.

“Survey data reveals that 20 per cent of employers plan to hire for the upcoming quarter (April to June), while two per cent anticipate cutbacks,” stated Nikki Sharpley of Manpower’s Kitchener office. Another 78 per cent of employers plan to maintain their current staffing levels in the upcoming quarter.

“With seasonal variations removed from the data, Waterloo region’s second quarter Net Employment Outlook of 16 per cent is a decrease of eight percentage points when compared to the previous quarterly Outlook,” said Sharpley. “It is also a three percentage point decrease from the Outlook reported during the same time last year, however this still indicates a respectable hiring pace for the upcoming months.”

“Overall employment levels remain little changed across Canada,” said Darlene Minatel, Vice President, Manpower Canada Operations & Strategic Accounts. “We’re noticing gains in some areas are being offset by declines in others. However, as the Canadian dollar remains low, we expect to see manufacturing begin to pick up, increasing demand for skilled labour.”
