Anti-Racism Community Meeting on October 24 to Kitchener-Waterloo
Waterloo - After MPP Catherine Fife’s request earlier this summer, Kitchener-Waterloo will host a community meeting with the Anti-Racism Directorate on October 24th, 2016.
On July 14th, MPP Catherine Fife wrote to Minister Coteau to request that the Directorate schedule a community meeting in Waterloo Region, after initially being excluded. Kitchener-Waterloo was the only community added to the initial list of nine communities.
“We all need to be committed to continuing open and honest dialogue to eliminate racism and hatred. A variety of community leaders informed me that our region was not being included in the province-wide meetings on anti-racism, so I joined their call. While Waterloo Region is one of the most innovative and collaborative communities in Ontario, incidents of racism continue to occur at a rate higher than other communities in Ontario and we can do better,” said Fife.
In addition to the Anti-Racism Directorate meeting on October 24th, MPP Fife is hosting an anti-racism luncheon on Friday, September 16, 2016 to recognize the work of local leaders in anti-racism at the Aboriginal Education Centre on St. Paul’s University College campus. In February 2016, the Liberal government fulfilled a decade-old promise after the Ontario NDP called for the establishment of an Anti-Racism Secretariat in the province.
