Amazon to open a new 136,000 square-foot site in Cambridge, creating hundreds of new jobs

The City of Cambridge is pleased to announce that Amazon.com, Inc. has plans to open a new delivery station in the city.

The new 136,000 square-foot facility will repurpose an existing industrial building located in the north of Cambridge at 125 Maple Grove Road. The facility is anticipated to open in late 2020 creating hundreds of positions with industry-leading pay and comprehensive benefits starting on day one.

“I am delighted by Amazon’s decision, and confident that our community will be a great fit for the company,” said Cambridge Mayor Kathryn McGarry. “Cambridge has a skilled workforce and is centrally located with easy access to highway 401, so it’s not surprising that Amazon has selected Cambridge as the location for its next project.”

Delivery stations like this new facility power the last mile of Amazon’s order fulfillment process, and are an integral part of the distribution chain. Packages are transported to delivery stations from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers, and then loaded into vehicles for delivery to customers.

The new facility will create hundreds of permanent, full-time and part-time jobs; in addition to offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own small business delivering Amazon packages, and allowing independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.

“With a labour force of more than 77,500 workers across multiple industries, along with a growing population, the City of Cambridge continues to be an attractive prospect for potential investors,” says James Goodram, Director of Economic Development. “We look forward to welcoming Amazon to Cambridge and are confident that the community impact of this new facility will be positive and timely for many residents.”

Amazon has not begun hiring at this new site but encourages interested candidates to sign up for job alerts at www.amazon.com/tc. To learn more about entrepreneur opportunities, visit www.logistics.amazon.com and https://flex.amazon.com/.
