InterVin Announces its Top Scoring, Gold Medal Winning Wines
Toronto - Twenty-six wines struck gold at the 2009 InterVin International Wine Awards, an intensive three-day blind tasting competition staged in September at the stunning White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake.
The gold medal wines were highly praised by a panel of distinguished sommeliers, wine writers, educators and winemakers who assessed more than 750 wines from 16 countries during the competition. Judges included internationally acclaimed sommeliers Zoltan Szabo and Jamie Drummond, respected wine writers Margaret Swaine and Daenna Van Mulligen and celebrated winemakers Darryl Brooker and Craig McDonald.
“I’m thrilled that our esteemed judges were able to come together and recognize such a diverse range of exceptional wines,” said Christopher Waters, editor of VINES Magazine and head judge of the InterVin International Wine Awards. “Using their keen insight and expansive expertise, they successfully identified a broad selection of wines that each represents excellence in winemaking.”
The top-scoring wines of the competition were the Flat Rock Cellars 2008 Riesling, Niagara Peninsula (Best White), Wyndham Estate 2005 George Wyndham Founder’s Reserve, Australia (Best Red) and Cattail Creek Estate Winery 2007 Select Late Harvest Riesling, Niagara Peninsula (Best Sweet Wine).
