Laurier announces its 2009 MBA Alumni Award recipients

TORONTO – The Laurier School of Business & Economics is proud to announce this year’s winners of the 2009 Laurier MBA Alumni Awards. An invitation-only celebration will be held Thursday, November 5, 2009 at the Toronto Board of Trade, beginning at 7 p.m.

The MBA Alumni Awards are presented in six categories. The 2009 winners include:

* Outstanding Executive Leadership Award: Sasha Jacob (’03), President and CEO, Jacob Securities Inc.

* Outstanding Innovation & Achievement Award: Iain Klugman (’02), President and CEO, Communitech Technology Association.

* Outstanding CMA/MBA Alumnus Award: Anthony Partipilo (’07), Vice-President: Finance, Solidifi.

* Wilfrid Laurier University Alumni Association (WLUAA) Award of Distinction: Jan Varner (’94), CEO, United Way of Kitchener Waterloo and Area.

* Community Leadership Award: Katharine Schmidt (’97), Executive Director, Food Banks Canada.

* MBA Alumnus of the Year Award: Yvan Couture ('89), President and CEO, Primal Fusion.

The MBA Alumni Awards Gala is an annual event that honours Laurier’s accomplished MBA graduates from both the Toronto and Waterloo programs. Award winners are selected for both their professional achievements and their service to the community.

“Laurier’s MBA graduates are leaders who add value in today’s organizations,” said Ginny Dybenko, Laurier’s dean of business and economics. “I want to personally congratulate our award winners for their outstanding business achievements – they are an inspiration to the next generation of graduates.”

The theme of this year’s event is Inspiring Lives of Leadership and Purpose, and will feature speaker Jeff Melanson, a Laurier MBA alumnus who is executive director, co-CEO of Canada’s National Ballet School. New this year, the event will feature alumni anniversary tables to recognize milestone graduation years.
