Growing in 2009
MTE Focused On Growth In Spite Of Economic Slowdown
Kitchener - At the beginning of 2009 MTE Consultants Inc. (MTE) opened the doors to its 2,800 m2 (30,000 sq. ft.) expansion on Bingemans Centre Drive in Kitchener.
Construction kicked off in May 2008, helping to double the size of the building that originally opened in 2002. With the merger of Frontline Environmental Management Inc. in 2007, MTE’s executive team was looking for a way to bring all of their Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge employees together in one location. More than 30 members of the Environmental Division were working from an office on nearby Riverbend Drive.
Despite the tough economic outlook, MTE is remaining optimistic about the opportunity for growth. “When we started planning our office expansion more than a year ago we had no idea the markets would go in the direction that they have,” said MTE’s president, Greg Marks.
“Late last year there were definitely some uncertainties about whether this was practical. Instead we decided that we would be successful by being fiscally responsible, by continuing our focus on our clients and exceeding their expectations in terms of the service we provide.”
The recent announcement from the federal government regarding a $10-billion infrastructure program for community projects is also refreshing news for the engineering industry. It improves the possibility that many of MTE’s current projects will begin construction and introduces the prospect of new endeavours going forward.
MTE has served the Waterloo Region since 1985. The company’s 145 employees, specialize in civil (land development and municipal engineering), structural and environmental engineering services. Recently added services include hydrogeology and building health sciences for mould and asbestos remediation. As well MTE has a growing office in Burlington serving the Burlington, Hamilton and Halton Regions.
