2011 Intelligent Community of the Year Visits 2007 Intelligent Community of the Year

Kitchener - Demonstrating further recognition of the global interest in Waterloo Region, a delegation from the Netherlands, led by Rob van Gijzel, Mayor of Eindhoven and chairman of the Brainport Foundation, will visit the Region on Monday, June 10 and Tuesday June 11. Key objectives of the mission are exploration of collaborations and partnerships, as well as exchanges between Waterloo Region and Eindhoven. Similar to Waterloo Region, Eindhoven is one of the most innovative regions in the world and share many similarly styled industry sectors, academic and research institutions.

Prior to their visit to the Waterloo Region, the Dutch visitors will participate in the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF) Summit in New York. The three members of the delegation are associated with Brainport Eindhoven Region, a technology centre with a world-wide reputation of being a top technology breeding ground for innovation and home to world-class businesses, knowledge institutes and research institutions.
The two day visit – their only stop in Canada – is being coordinated by CTT Inc in conjunction with partners such as the City of Waterloo, University of Waterloo, Perimeter Institute, Centre for Innovation Governance Innovation (CIGI), Quantum Nano Centre, Conestoga College, Communitech, Desire2Learn and ComDev.
The highlight of the visit will be the historical signing of a Letter of Intent by City of Waterloo Mayor Brenda Halloran and Eindhoven Mayor Rob van Gijzel on Monday June 10th at 10:45 a.m. at Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), 67 Erb Street West, Waterloo.
