2015 Oktoberfest

Ron MacLean named K-W Oktoberfest parade marshal

Kitchener – The voice of Canadian hockey, Ron MacLean, is the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest parade marshal for 2015. The parade is on Thanksgiving Monday, Oct. 12.

The parade has a completely new route this year, starting at Kitchener Market at King and Cedar streets at 8:45 a.m. Thousands of people line the parade route each year to see the floats, bands and special entries that are part of this annual event. The parade will turn right onto Victoria street and left onto Weber street, taking Weber all the way to Bridgeport road in Waterloo.

Starting off Oktoberfest on Friday is Grillefest and the official opening ceremonies. From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday, join members of Kitchener City Council to celebrate the official opening ceremonies of the 47th Oktoberfest at Kitchener City Hall, Carl Zehr Square. Council and city staff serves up a delicious, traditional Oktoberfest sausage, a cookie and a soft drink for only $5. All proceeds will be donated to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Non-perishable and canned goods are also welcome.

Kitchener Civic Square will be bustling with pomp and ceremony, music and dancing, and the enthusiasm of thousands at 11:15 a.m., announcing the official opening of the annual Bavarian festival, which runs Oct. 9-17.

Head to the Kitchener Marketplace on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., to Cook Like Oma with Chef D. Also, there will be traditional German dancers and music at 10:30 a.m., and appearances from some of your favorite Oktoberfest mascots! Please bring a non-perishable food donation for the Waterloo Region Food Bank for the upcoming holiday season.

A number of city facilities will also be closed for the holiday Monday.
