New version of Bruce Power's free iPad App features calculator on how electricity options impact Ontario's climate change goals

Tiverton - Bruce Power has released an update to its free iPad App as part of its ongoing efforts to further inform the public on electricity generation in Ontario and the role played by clean, reliable and low-cost nuclear power. The updated App has a new focus on the role the electricity system plays in meeting Ontario's short and long-term climate change goals.

"The new features really speak to what's important to Ontarians – knowledge on where their electricity comes from, what each electricity source costs as well as understanding how a clean, modern electricity system is important to meeting our climate change goals," said James Scongack, Vice-President, Corporate Affairs at Bruce Power. "We have always believed facts are our friends and by sharing the facts in an innovative way we can help further the energy dialogue and through this conversation recognize the importance of a balanced mix including Bruce Power nuclear."

The new version of the Bruce Power App includes a complete refresh with up-to-date information on the company's contribution in Ontario's supply mix, the amount of nuclear power being generated in Ontario, its role in the province's Long-Term Energy Plan and its environmental and sustainability efforts.

In addition to the original Cost and Clean Air Calculator, the updated App features a new Climate Change calculator focusing on electricity supply mix considerations related to emissions targets to meet Ontario's reduction goals by 2020 and 2050.

"Thousands of Ontarians have used many of these tools available on the iPad, iPhone and our website in recent years and the feedback has been positive as these tools are factually-based and demonstrate the importance of a balanced electricity supply mix including Bruce Power nuclear," added Scongack.

The App also features new publications, videos and a section on the innovative partnership between Bruce Power and Nordion to harvest Cobalt 60 used to sterilize 40 per cent of the world's single-use medical supplies.
