Infrastructure Ontario Accepts Innovation Award

Canada Green Building Council – Greater Toronto Chapter recognizes innovation that led to LEED Platinum designation at Peterborough facility

TORONTO - Infrastructure Ontario accepted an award for "Innovation in LEED: Existing Buildings Operations and Maintenance" (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) by the Canada Green Building Council – Greater Toronto Chapter (CaGBC-GTC). The Ontario Government Building at 300 Water Street in Peterborough won in the Category of Existing Building: Operations and Maintenance (EBOM) at an awards ceremony on October 22, 2015.

The annual awards program recognizes projects and individuals that demonstrate advancement in the green building industry in Southern Ontario. In February 2015, the facility was officially designated as LEED EB:O&M Platinum by the Canada Green Building Council.

Known in Peterborough as "Robinson Place", the seven-storey downtown facility accommodates more than 1000 government employees, representing seven ministries. It is the provincial headquarters for the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry.

The green approach to building management included tremendous contributions from government ministries through participation in strong recycling programs, a green approach to procurement of materials and development of a community garden above a parking structure. The building is fully metered, uses rainwater to its advantage and has sophisticated new energy efficient chillers to provide optimum performance during the cooling season. The building automation system was upgraded to meet LEED standards for efficiency and client comfort.
