CIGI Wins Waterloo Area’s Top Employers for 2016

Waterloo – CIGI, an independent, non-partisan think tank on international governance, has been awarded one of Waterloo Region’s Top 15 Employers for 2016. The annual list is compiled by publisher Mediacorp Canada Inc. and the special designation recognizes the employers in the Kitchener-Waterloo and Guelph area that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work.

A total of 15 employers were announced in a special editorial feature on Saturday, November 28, 2105 in the Waterloo Region Record and the Guelph Mercury.

Organizations were evaluated based on eight criteria, which is the same as the national competition. This criteria includes physical workplace; work atmosphere; health, financial & family benefits; vacation time; employee communications; performance management; training & skills development; and community involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offers the most progressive and forward-thinking programs.

CIGI is committed to providing inspiring research work and global engagement opportunities, a motivating and artistic environment, fun workplace activities, a comprehensive benefits package, and an excellent community location.

Reasons highlighted for the selection of CIGI as one of the top employers include CIGI’s encouragement of employees to keep fit through walking and running groups, secure bicycle parking, a health club subsidy (to $300 annually) and onsite instructor-led yoga classes; help for employees to balance their work and personnel commitments with alternative work options; and support for young families with maternity leave top up payments (to 75% of salary for 10 weeks).

“It’s an honour for CIGI to be recognized as a top employer in the Waterloo Region and we work hard to make this a great place to work. I want to congratulate each and every one of our employees on this accomplishment,” says Rohinton Medhora, President of CIGI. “CIGI is committed to attracting and supporting the best researchers and corporate staff in this community and from around the world.”

As a global think tank, CIGI believes that better international governance can improve the lives of people everywhere, by increasing prosperity, ensuring global sustainability, addressing inequality and safeguarding human rights and promoting a more secure world. CIGI’s interdisciplinary work includes collaboration with policy, business and academic communities around the world to anticipate emerging trends in international governance and be at forefront of defining and redefining innovative solutions in order to strengthen multilateral responses to the world’s most pressing problems.
